Last updated: April 2026

Invisible Pencil is committed to handling personal information and writing signal data responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and how it is protected. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

  • Editing activity and session interaction patterns within the editor
  • Session timing and duration
  • Content growth patterns during a writing session
  • Document metadata such as word count and revision history

  • Browser type and version
  • Device type

2. Writing Signals Data

The platform collects writing signals generated during content creation sessions within the Invisible Pencil editor. These signals support content authenticity insights and editorial quality workflows.

  • Writing signals may include timing patterns, editing activity, and interaction patterns within the editor environment.
  • Signal data is collected only when users are actively using the platform editor. No data is collected outside the platform environment.
  • Writing signal data is not used for personal identification and is not combined with external data sources.
  • Signal data is associated with a workspace and document session, not with a persistent personal profile shared outside that workspace.
  • Workspace owners and administrators can review signal data within their own workspace only.

3. Consent and the Consensual Writing Environment

The platform is designed to operate within a consensual writing environment. Signal collection occurs as part of the normal, known operation of the editor.

  • Workspace owners invite writers to create content within the platform. By accepting an invitation and using the editor, writers participate in a professional writing environment where signal data is generated as part of the workflow.
  • Workspace owners are responsible for ensuring that invited participants are informed that the platform collects writing signals as described in this policy.
  • Writers voluntarily use the Invisible Pencil editor as part of their professional workflow. Signal collection occurs only during active use of the editor.
  • The platform does not perform hidden or covert data collection. All signal collection is a disclosed function of the editor environment.

4. How We Use Information

Information collected through the platform is used for the following purposes:

  • To operate the platform and provide writing signal insights to workspace administrators.
  • To support content authenticity evaluation and editorial quality workflows.
  • To improve platform performance, reliability, and feature quality.
  • To maintain service integrity and prevent misuse of the platform.
  • To process subscription payments and manage billing.
  • To send service-related notifications, such as account confirmations and system updates.

5. Data Usage Limits

  • Writing signal data is used solely to support the platform's authorship confidence and content authenticity features.
  • We do not sell personal data or writing signal data to third parties.
  • We do not use writing signal data to train external AI models.
  • We do not use writing signal data for advertising profiling.
  • Signal data from one workspace is never shared with or accessible by another workspace.

6. Third-Party Services

We work with a small number of trusted service providers to operate the platform. Only the data necessary for each service is shared.

  • Stripe — used for secure payment processing. Stripe handles payment card data directly and we do not store card details.
  • Email service providers — used to deliver account confirmations, password resets, and service notifications.
  • Infrastructure providers — used for secure hosting and data storage.
  • Analytics tools — used to understand aggregate product usage and improve platform performance. These tools receive anonymised usage data only.

7. Data Storage and Retention

  • All data is stored using industry-standard security protections, including encryption in transit and at rest.
  • Writing session data and documents are retained while a workspace is active.
  • Upon account cancellation, data remains accessible for 30 days before permanent deletion, allowing users to export anything needed.
  • We retain only the data necessary to provide the Service and fulfil legal obligations.

8. Data Security

  • We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure.
  • Access to personal data and writing signal data is restricted to authorised personnel who require it to operate the platform.
  • No system can guarantee complete security. We encourage users to maintain strong account passwords and report any suspected security issues promptly.

9. Cookies

We use a limited set of cookies to support platform functionality:

  • Session cookies — required to maintain authenticated login sessions.
  • Functional cookies — used to remember user preferences within the platform.
  • Analytics cookies — used in aggregate, anonymised form to understand usage patterns and improve the platform.
  • Users can control or disable non-essential cookies through their browser settings. Disabling session cookies may affect the ability to use the platform.

10. User Rights

Users have the following rights in relation to their personal data:

  • Access — you may request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — you may request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Deletion — you may request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Portability — you may request an export of your document data before account deletion.
  • To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@invisiblepencil.com.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in the platform, applicable law, or our data practices. We will notify users of material changes by email or through a notice within the platform. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
