Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Invisible Pencil is an opt-in authorship verification platform. All monitoring of writing behaviour occurs only with the full knowledge and consent of the writer. This policy defines who may use the Service, for what purposes, and what is strictly prohibited.

1. Consensual Verification Only

Invisible Pencil operates exclusively on an opt-in basis. Writers must be fully informed that behavioural signals are being captured before any session begins. The Service must never be deployed covertly or without the explicit knowledge of the person whose writing is being verified.

  • All verification sessions require the active participation and awareness of the writer.
  • Clients, agencies, and employers must inform writers that Invisible Pencil is in use before work commences.
  • Session data may only be shared with parties who have a legitimate business relationship with the writer and only for the purpose disclosed at the time of consent.
  • The terms "monitoring" or "surveillance" do not accurately describe this product. Invisible Pencil is an opt-in authorship verification tool, not a covert tracking system.

2. Legitimate Business Use

The Service is intended for lawful, professional quality-assurance purposes. Acceptable use cases include:

  • Content agencies verifying proof of authorship for client deliverables, where writers are aware of and have agreed to the verification process.
  • Freelance writers demonstrating authentic, human-authored work to clients as a professional credential.
  • Editorial teams auditing internal content workflows to maintain quality standards.
  • Businesses confirming that contracted content was written by the disclosed author.
  • Employers conducting performance or quality reviews of written work, provided writers are notified in advance per applicable employment law.

3. Academic Integrity

Invisible Pencil strictly prohibits any use that facilitates academic dishonesty or circumvents institutional integrity policies.

  • The Service must not be used to help students submit AI-generated or third-party work as their own.
  • The Service must not be used to bypass, game, or deceive AI-content detection systems used by academic institutions.
  • Educational institutions may use the platform only for legitimate authorship verification of submitted work, provided students are informed per institutional policy.
  • Any use designed to manufacture false behavioural signals to misrepresent the origin of written content is a violation of this policy and grounds for immediate account termination.

4. Prohibited Activities

Regardless of context, users must not:

  • Deploy the Service without the writer's prior knowledge and consent.
  • Use the platform to harass, discriminate against, or unlawfully surveil any individual.
  • Simulate artificial behavioural signals or use automated scripts to mimic human writing patterns.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, spoof, or manipulate the behavioural scoring system.
  • Use the platform to facilitate cheating, plagiarism, or any form of academic fraud.
  • Share session data with unauthorised third parties or use it for purposes beyond the scope originally disclosed to the writer.
  • Abuse system APIs, overload infrastructure, or interfere with platform performance.
  • Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law.

5. Fair Usage

  • Users should use the platform responsibly and not overload system resources.
  • We reserve the right to limit or throttle excessive usage that impacts service availability for other users.

6. Enforcement

Violation of this policy may result in:

  • Immediate account suspension or permanent termination.
  • Restriction or removal of specific features.
  • Reporting to relevant regulatory or law enforcement authorities where legally required.

7. Reporting Abuse

If you believe the Service is being used in violation of this policy — including covert deployment or use to facilitate academic fraud — please report it to: abuse@invisiblepencil.com. We take all reports seriously and investigate every complaint.
